September Round Up
That’s a wrap. September has been and gone and what a sartorial whirlwind it was. The highlight, of course, the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival. My evenings were filled with glamourous gowns, canapés, champagne, couture and beautiful company. The month flew by and with it so many exciting events I thought I would give you a little recap to relive some of the highlights in this September round up.
Fashion | Karrinyup Spring Summer 15 launch
September without a doubt has been by far the most exciting month this year and it kicked off with Karrinyup Spring Summer launch hosted by non-other than Fashion Blogger’ s TV star Amanda Shadforth from Oracle Fox Blog. Amanda talked us through Karrinyup’s top fashion picks for men and women and how to style them for the season ahead. I also had the opportunity to speak with Amanda and get a highly coveted picture. Amanda is an inspirational fashion influencer that wears many hats, photographer, creative director, TV star and much more. Turning her hand to creative projects Amanda is definitely one to follow, thanks Karrinyup for the amazing opportunity to meet Amanda and steal a few moments of her time. As if that wasn’t enough Australian artist Sara Winfield created a beautiful illustration live featuring her signature doe-eyed girls with large, watery eyes white hair and pouty smiles while models paraded the catwalk.
Fashion | Telstra Perth Fashion Festival Poppy X Atlas
As part of the Telstra Perth fashion festival programme, I was invited to the Poppy Lissiman exclusive launch of the Atlas Pearls jewellery collection ‘Eye See You’. Poppy’s iconic accessory designs scream fun fashion, her use of bold colours, graphic images and quirky combinations set her apart from the crowd and make her designs very identifiable. The collaboration with Atlas pearl featured Poppy’s contemporary signature graphic eye detailing on the beautiful Atlas South Sea pearl. The iconic eye is inspired by the Nazar amulet which for hundreds of years has been believed to protect those against the evil eye a very ancient superstition characterized by the belief that certain individuals may cause harm to whatever they set their gaze on.
Fashion | Telstra Perth Fashion Festival Cultural Programme WA Born
Presented by the Colosoul Group, WA Born supports young and emerging WA fashion talent, bringing the creative community together by presenting runway shows featuring emerging and established labels. Whipper Snapper Distillery in East Perth was transformed for the night into a designer runway showcasing a range of designers from Hello Parry, Shop Goh, Natalie Rolt and many more home grown talent. Hosted by Channel 9 New’s Jerrie Demasi WA Born aimed to raise funds for animal conservation in collaboration with the World Wide Fund. It was fantastic to see everyone come together and support such a great cause.
Travel | York Western Australia
This was my second trip to York to in three weeks. A short distance from Perth city, York is a historical old town that offers an abundance of charm and old world character. Like everyone else on Instagram I set out in search of canola fields. Armed with a mud map drawn by a colleague and vague description of a lane way I set out on a little adventure inland. Driving into York the landscape was filled with stunningly beautiful yellow fields and on my second trip I also squeezed in a visit to the Olive Oil Company to see their exquisite wildflowers blooming.
Lifestyle | Dyson V6 Absolute Cordless Vacuum
My amazing Dyson V6 Absolute cordless vacuum arrived. Small light and powerful this little device with a big personality which takes the stress and procrastination out of cleaning. You can read my comprehensive review here. Believe me, everyone needs one of these little gadgets in their lives.
Fitness | Australia Fitness & Health Expo 2015
Before the chaos of fashion week, I took the opportunity to attend a press morning at the Perth Fitness and health expo with my sister. First on the morning’s itinerary, a workout with Max The Body personal trainer to celebrities. It’s not hard to see why Max is referred to as the body, those abs! He put a group of bloggers through their paces with a total body shock workout, and to say my body got a shock is an understatement. Although a rigorous workout that involved one too many pull ups and push up I really enjoyed the morning. I also met the lovely Kim Beach who whisked up a delicious smoothie made from strawberries, frozen banana and cinnamon. And provided us with some nutritional information which I found very useful. Kim’s top tip, add cinnamon to everything, it apparently has a range of health benefits. I also didn’t know you could freeze bananas, which as it turns out are delicious in smoothies. I also met Commando Steve who noticed I like to wear pink, although a little scary on TV he was a completely lovely in real life. Overall I really enjoyed the morning workout and meeting so many inspirational people that empower people to get fit and healthy. My sister Sandi whose lifestyle blog you can find here wrote a fantastic article for weekends notes about our experience at the fitness Expo here.
Food | Kings Park
Exhausted, Sandi and I headed to Kings Park for a lovely lazy lunch at overlooking the city to recuperate after our eventful morning of fitness at the Botanical Cafe. Although a little windy, the view was breath taking and made me question why I do not go to Kings Park more often. After lunch we headed for a walk around the Botanic gardens, explored the blossoming wildflowers and shot some looks for the blog. All in all this was a very productive Saturday.
Telstra Perth Fashion Festival Active Living launch
Again Karrinyup pulled out all the stops and hosted a morning inspiring a healthy and active lifestyle. Beautifully located at Mosman park bowling club boasting spectacular views of the city and river below. The sun was high in the sky and everyone dived into the delicious breakfast banquet of raw treats, from Nood, and cold pressed juices from Pressed Earth while indulging in a game of bare foot bowling before a fashion parade began. Amanda Bisk, former Australian Pole Vaulter and exercise Physiologist and the amazing Aspire Group’s hit the catwalk, showcasing this season’s stylish sports-luxe wear. Sports and lifestyle presenter Caty Price MC’d the lunch and funky Perth DJ Nat Daws got the crowd moving with her beats. No longer confined to the gym, the looks show how active wear is as comfortable, relaxing and fabulous whether you are at home; out for coffee; at the shops or catching up with friends. This was a lovely morning celebrating fashion, health, wellbeing and positive living.
Telstra Perth Fashion Festival 2015
I was privileged to attend many shows throughout the fashion festival and even had my hair professional styled before the Phuong My show for a L’oreal instructional video on the messy bun created specifically for the show. I also had the opportunity to meet the lovely Phuong backstage as she was looking over my hairstyle. You can read my reviews of Phuong My here.
An LED rainbow and glitter unicorns on skateboards framed the runway as life-sized Barbie-esque models draped in glittering gowns, psychedelic prints and dragon knee high boots took to the runway for what was a truly unique and unexpected runway experience. 90’s pop tunes set the atmosphere as one of my all time favourite songs ‘Barbie Girl’ had everyone dancing in their seats, read more here.
Bloggers Bloom Together / Target Runway
After the Restyle Runway show, myself and Emma had organised a Bloggers Bloom Together catch up. It was lovely to have a coffee and chocolates, or in my case, tea, pannacotta and a tartlet at Koko Black and talk all things blogging. I always love eating with other bloggers because no one touches the food until everyone else is finished taking pictures even if that means moving things around the table to get that perfect shot. It was also heart-warming to see some new bloggers along that had never been to one of our events before and hopefully the next one will be even bigger again. We then all headed to the Target Runway at Forrest Chase where Jessica Mauboy strutted down the catwalk showcasing the best of Targets Spring Summer Collection. The pop princess sang three songs including a personal favourite of mine ‘can I get a moment’. The Target runway was filled with colour and energy offering a broad selection of on-trend pieces that the whole family will love and great affordable prices.
So, as you can see September was a busy month. October has been a lot quieter which has allowed me spend valuable time planning content and lots of other collaborations and projects I have up my sleeve which I cannot wait to share with you. If you’re on Snapchat pop over and say hi username (demelzabuckley) I would love to hear from you.
