Before I jump into sharing my goals and dreams for 2017, I have spent some time reflecting on 2016, everything I did and didn’t achieve. I mentioned in yesterday’s post here 3 reasons why we should take the time to reflect on the past to move forward with a renewed sense of motivation, determination to make this year successful.

It is important to point out that each day is a new beginning and at any time you can apply these questions to move forward, so, it doesn’t matter if you do this today, tomorrow, or in 6 weeks time the main focus is on achieving clarity from the past to peruse your dreams and goals for the future.

I love that this exercise allows you to acknowledge all the incredible things you did do and achieved in 2016 so, lets, get stuck in.


I have been reflecting on these questions for a few days to really identify what I want for 2017. Personally, 2016 was a very exciting year for me as I got engaged, I managed to lose weight (which I have now put back on and some) but, there were also very challenging times particularly towards the end of the year. On the other hand, I feel like I found myself in 2016, it was the year I truly believed I could make my dreams come true and they weren’t well ….. just a dream.

No year is ever going to be perfect and at different points, throughout the year I had to make sacrifices, adapt, be a support while also remaining positive but that is life. The lows make you appreciate the highs and you realise very quickly who and what are really important in our lives and that your health really is your most valuable asset.

Identify what makes you joyful, what have you loved, what’s made you laugh out loud?

When I think about what brought me joy over the last year discovering my love for yoga and meditation immediately comes to mind. I really enjoyed taking time out to practice mindfulness and it really helped me to stay present and focused. Meditation in particular significantly reduced my anxiety levels, I notably felt calmer when faced with challenging situations. Of course, if you follow me on snapchat here you would know that I also love getting to the beach for coastal walks and eating acai bowls.

On a creative level, I have loved developing my photography skills throughout the year by creating fresh content for this blog and social media channels.

– what’s made you laugh out loud

Kraig, my fiancée makes me laugh hysterically all the time, but when I think about what made me laugh out loud – where my sides hurt was with my friends at home in Ireland. There is something about being with my childhood friends that is so special.

What are you most proud of / your happiest moment of 2016?

Being shortlisted in the Irish Blog Awards was a very proud moment for me this year, as I have been blogging for a few years now it was a great achievement to be nominated and my blog recognised for such a prestigious award. As I keep mentioning getting engaged to the love of my life will forever be my happiest memory of 2016 and I promise to share all the details on the proposal and our wedding plans soon.

Did you achieve everything you wanted to achieve?

No, I didn’t, but that’s okay I set myself a lot of goals. When I look at everything I did achieve it spurs me on to keep working on those other goals. Last year I spent the first part of the year attending dreamer’s workshops that guided me to really look at my dreams, find my purpose and passion which eventually helped me to start making my dreams become a reality. 2017 is going to be a big year!

Of course, there are times when I fell into that trap of negative thinking and focusing on all the things I don’t have or that I didn’t achieve this year but I learnt about living abundantly and this has helped me to change my mindset and focus on positivity.

What would you like to duplicate for 2017?

Towards the end of the year, I was focused on attending early morning yoga classes, even though I am not a morning person, I love sleeping in I found this was the best start to the day. I was more focused, calm and smashed though my daily to-do list. This year I really want to focus more on learning yoga and trying to practice daily mediation. I also want to work on building better routines, healthy habits and cultivating a positive mindset.

What frustrated or disappointed you?

Lack of time and motivation often frustrated me. Working full time left me tired and lacking the energy to peruse things that really mattered the most to me. If I am being really honest, self – doubt and comparison took up too much of my energy at points. Procrastination and over thinking were major, pitfall and taking on too many challenges. This year I need to stop trying to do everything and only focus on what aligns with my vision and goals.

What habits seemed to hold you back from achieving your potential?

I really feel that this is mostly answered above as for me they are intertwined.

What do you not want to happen again next year?

I want to lose weight and actually keep the weight off this time. I mentioned here how I lost 5.5kg in 5 weeks and then a further 2kg. I have to admit I loved being fit and healthy. I underestimated how hard it was to lose weight and how easy it is to put it back on, I don’t want to spend my time an energy losing weight only to put it all back on again. I also don’t want to lose faith in myself and my abilities, as a creative person and a complete perfectionist I often waste time questioning myself.

What did you learn by going through these experiences?

I learnt that I can do anything I set my mind too but it takes time, to achieve things. Once you begin to embark on a certain path you have to keep choosing that path along the way. During challenging stages of the year, I realised I am more resilient than I thought and that I seek a new way of thinking about things when there seems to be no solution in sight.

What decisions did you make that were empowering for you? Did you challenge yourself?

Yoga and meditation again was the most empowering element I discovered last year. I often challenged myself too much and expected too much of myself.

What decisions should you make in order to have your best year ahead?

This is a very difficult question and after much reflection I am still unsure what decisions I should make. I will ponder this for a few more days and update when I finally come to a conclusion. I do know that I need to try and not focus on things that are not really relevant to my future and my vision.

Acknowledgment – Things I am grateful for

To answer this question I went through my diary and looked back over at all the amazing things I did and places I went during the year. I am very humbled to have been invited to and attended so many functions and events. I also collaborated with amazing brands and PR companies such as ASOSOrogoldSuperdryPandora and Review to name a few.

I am so grateful for each and every opportunity that has come my way, the people I have met and the friendships I have made. I also feel it’s fair to pat myself on the back and say that I have worked very hard this year and even though I could always have done better, I did pretty well.

As for this blog, I have always wanted this space to be quality over quantity and I put my heart and soul into each and every project and collaboration I work on. There were lots of goals I didn’t achieve this year, but I plan on building on these for 2017, it’s going to be a big one!
