3 REASONS TO REFLECT ON 2016 FOR SUCCESS IN 2017
Top 3 reasons for reflecting on the past to move forward with the future with a renewed sense of motivation, clarity and confidence for success in 2017.
It’s that exciting time of year again, where we wind down the year that’s been and prepare for the one to come. I am a firm believer that you can begin afresh at any time but there is an infectious level of motivation and positive energy at this time of year. Armed with a clean slate and fresh perspective we feel inspired and energised by our unexplored dreams and desires.
Before we move forward with the New Year and get working on achieving those goals, it is important to take the time to properly reflect on the year past.
‘After all, it’s only by understanding what has past that we can look to the future’,
Reflection gives us a chance to take stock and reflect in order to learn from past experiences. As someone that is always looking ahead, I am a chronic planner and love to schedule my time and days weeks in advance. I find it hard to look back and really analyse things, but, honestly I have found it is the best way to reflect on your achievements and acknowledge how far you have come and identify areas that worked or didn’t for the year ahead.

BE KIND TO YOURSELF
‘regret is a side effect of trying to get the most out of life’
I believe it is really important to be kind to yourself when you do this exercise. Personally, I feel we forget to acknowledge all the amazing things we did do in those 365 days, the people we met or the places we visited, the workouts we completed, all those little high 5 moments can be forgotten. So, whether you did achieve your goals or you didn’t it is really important to acknowledge the progress you made this year.
As I naturally write everything down in a diary, I love to have something tangible as oppose and online calendar but either way it’s a great idea to go through each day and month and remember all of the things that I did throughout the year. Often I am surprised at how much I actually fit in and it spurs me into action to work on those things that I fell short on.
