It’s a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you’re ready. I have this feeling that actually no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now.

Happy New Year everyone I hope you had a wonderful Christmas holiday and spent time, relaxing with family and friends. I really enjoyed some down time to recharge and now I am motivated more than ever to make the most of 2017. I don’t want to let a day slip by that I am not working towards making my dreams a reality.

I mentioned in last week’s post here 3 reasons why we should take the time to reflect on the past to move forward with a renewed sense of motivation, determination to make this year successful and I also followed with another post on 12 questions to reflect on 2016 here. After, spending time carefully looking at last year I am clear on my intentions and vision for 2017 and can’t wait to get stuck in.

One of the main things I learnt last year is that you will never really feel ‘ready’ but you have to just start,  that can be anything from learning a new language, getting fit, starting a business, or planning to travel the world. Sometimes we just have to take the first step and start. To do this I thought I would begin by articulating my aspirations for the year ahead to make them ‘real’. I always find by writing things down and getting them out of my head away from the other millions of ideas it’s easier to focus, review, and make them a reality. It is also important to remember that goals require time and energy so while striving for your dream it is important to keep focused.

As I mentioned in my 2016 reflection post here, I spent a copious amount of time last year attending creative workshops and trying to get clear on my vision. After much reflection, I finally focused on what and where I was headed with my life and started working on them in 2016 which I will continue to build on for 2017.

Of course, as I grow a little older every year my priorities change. Last year I got engaged which I haven’t stopped talking about, so, my main focus for the first half of this year will be planning my Pinterest-perfect wedding. I am also conscious that I would like to start saving for my dream home and thinking about starting a family. I am so excited about this stage in my life and all of these goals are really my over arching life goals for the next 5 years.

This year I want to build on my successes of 2016 and really spend time more focused on what I want to ACHIEVE from the year ahead.

The main areas I am looking at this year are my Personal Life, Travel, Career/Personal Brand and Health, Well-Being. These are the overarching areas of life that I tend to focus my goals and plans around.

Personal Brand – Blog

This year I really want to focus on growing my personal brand and sharing quality content that adds value for you. I have looked back on why I blog again here and realigned with my purpose and intention for sharing and creating content it in the first place. As my background is in fashion design, visual merchandising and styling I will continue to focus on fashion while incorporating quality content on lifestyle topics, travel and beauty. This year I am very excited about branching into YouTube and video content. This will be a new avenue for me, but I think this will be a great opportunity for me to share more with you.

Photography is a huge passion of mine and I am now perusing this further, if you would like content created for your social media, blog, products I would love to hear from you.

This year I will focus on

  • Attending more self-development workshops and networking events
  • Switch off notifications from Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat, unsubscribe from e-mails and instead have dedicated time slots for social media
  • Focus on one thing at a time – too often I try complete 3 things at once
  • More motivational content for this blog
  • Continue to inspire you to follow your dreams
  • Share the beautiful content and images I have already taken – there is so much, from travel, to editorials, events, food adventures, I literally have thousands of images to share
  • Continue to develop my photography skills

Nourish – Mind – Body – Soul

I mentioned in my reflection post that practising yoga and meditation empowered me on my journey last year. This year I will continue to practice mindfulness and nourish my body with healthy food but also treat myself from time to time without beating myself up.

This year I will focus on

  • yoga
  • mediation
  • 80-20% eat healthily
  • workout and keep trying new fitness classes
  • building healthier routines to free up my time

I have mentioned a few times here that the next big trip I plan on taking is travelling around Australia and after hearing all about my sister’s holiday on the east coast this Christmas I can’t wait for this adventure.

I have already booked a girls holiday to Ibiza with my friends in the coming months, so, I was thinking while I was in Europe that I might try and see a few more places. I also hope to tick a few of the below destinations off my list.

  • New Zealand
  • Greece – Santorini -Mykonos
  • South of France during lavender and sunflower season
  • New York
  • Italian Riviera
  • Barcelona
  • Iceland
  • Bora Bora
  • Fiji
  • Maldives
  • Bali (again)

Personal Growth – Life

I wonder will I ever find that ‘ balance’ between working and hustling then switching off to focus on my personal life and relationships but it is something I hope to work on for 2017. Last year I was empowered by a podcast about minimalism, it discussed, how we are always accumulating things in the quest to find ‘happiness’, but things don’t actually always make us ‘happy’. In my case I get overwhelmed when I have too much ‘stuff’ and ‘clutter’. This year I will be ruthless in divesting unnecessary things that no longer serve me. In the same vein, negativity has no place in my life, this year I only want to focus on cultivating a positive mindset.

This year I will focus on

  • Learning more, reading more, continue to question
  • Live intentionally in the present and appreciate all that I have
  • Get more organised
  • Prepare meals and clothes for work the night before
  • Create better routines and habits
  • Stop procrastinating
